Coventry defender set to join Scunthorpe United

Coventry City defender Junior Brown is set to join Scunthorpe United as reported by Football Insider.

Reporter Pete O’Rourke claims a source at Scunthorpe has told him the Iron are in advanced talks to sign Brown on loan.

The thirty-year-old has found himself down the pecking order at the Sky Blues and is yet to feature in the first team so far this campaign. The report suggests Coventry boss Mark Robins is open to allowing the left-back a loan move in a bid to get some game time.

Brown made twenty-three appearances last season after signing a two-year deal with the Sky Blues in the summer. Previously he spent three-years at Shrewsbury Town, and he’s also turned out for Mansfield Town, Fleetwood and Tranmere amongst others.

According to the report, Scunthorpe boss Paul Hust sees Brown’s experience as a vital addition to his squad after a very disappointing start to life back in League Two.

Our View

Hurst knows Brown from his time at Shrewsbury, and you get the feeling he is attempting to surround himself with trusted lieutenants at Glanford Park.

Brown would be a decent addition, and the Iron need a boost after a dreadful start to the season.

Many fans have been unimpressed with Hurt’s transfer dealings so far, and they will be hoping Brown settles quickly to help bolster a leaky defence.

The defender was converted from a winger to a full-back at Salop, and he will add versatility as well as experience to Hurst’s squad.

If he recaptures his form at Shrewsbury before he picked up a severe injury, then Scunthorpe will have made an excellent signing.
