Ipswich Town transfer target Tom Elliott is set to feature in the Millwall squad to face Oxford United in the Carabao Cup this evening as reported by London News Online.
He also appeared for Millwall Under-23s at Leeds United last week, and it seems he is making good progress on his recovery from an injury that stalled a potential move to Ipswich earlier in the summer.
The striker picked up a severe hamstring strain in the Lions opening pre-season friendly at Concord Rangers, and Ipswich fears over potential recovery time prevented a deal going through after a medical.
The report claims the Tractor Boys are still interested in Elliott and are one of several clubs interested in taking the former AFC Wimbledon man on loan before next week’s deadline.
The powerful forward will be hoping to finally end his injury frustrations with a return to first-team action this evening. He’s made only twenty-four Championship starts in Neil Harris’ team since he arrived at the New Den in 2017.
Our View
If Paul Lambert is still interested, then we feel this signing could be a gamble.
Elliott first suffered hamstring problems during his spell at Rotherham in 2010 and endured a further lengthy period on the sidelines during his three-year spell at Cambridge United
Indeed, then Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore labelled the striker a ‘sicknote’.
Ipswich already pulled out of a loan deal for the forward once due to injury concerns, and we doubt they will revisit.
But, if they do and Elliott stays fit, he could be a decent loan signing.
One thing is sure; if Elliott does make it on to the grass this evening, several clubs will be watching him very closely.
