Celtic defender eyed by League One Portsmouth

Young Celtic defender Calvin Miller is interesting League One Portsmouth according to the Daily Record.

The twenty-one-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the Glasgow giants first-team despite making his debut in December 2016. He is yet to feature in a match-day squad this campaign.

The Scotland Under-21 international is in the final year of his contract at Parkhead and spent the first half of last season on loan at Dundee before spending the remainder of the campaign at Ayr United.

Miller has made just five appearances for Celtic since emerging through their youth ranks three-years ago and now looks surplus to manager Neil Lennon’s requirements. Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is looking for left-back cover following the recent injury to Lee Brown and is thought to be monitoring his situation.

Pompey have had a mixed start to their League One campaign, winning just one of their first four games. They are in League Cup action tonight when they visit Championship side QPR in the second round.

Our View

Miller has stagnated at Celtic and many Hoops fans feel he is just not good enough to be a Celtic player.

Nonetheless, with Lennon short of defensive cover, the move could depend on whether Celtic land a replacement after a deal for Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor recently stalled.

Jackett needs cover so it would seem a perfect fit and if Miller can find the form is early potential seemed to suggest, then the under-pressure Pompey boss might have unearthed a gem.

However, if he fails to find his feet, it will only add to the list of questions some Pompey fans have for their boss, who needs to start winning games quickly to ease the scrutiny.
