Sheffield Wednesday defender keen to leave as Sunderland eye second bid

Sunderland are eyeing a second bid for Sheffield Wednesday defender Morgan Fox as reported by the Sunderland Echo.

Jack Ross is looking to bolster his defensive options and is particularly keen to sign a left-back to provide competition for Denver Hulme.

The Echo claims the Black Cats have already had a bid rejected by the Owls for a player they say is interested in a move to Wearside, having seen his first-team chances restricted at Hillsborough.

The defender is not a popular player amongst an element of the Hillsborough support. The left-back received jeers and catcalls before his first Championship start of the season in the Owls win over Luton Town last week. The behaviour of a section of the support prompted Wednesday caretaker manager Lee Bullen to jump to his defence in the local press and Fox to vow he was determined to win over his critics.

The twenty-five-year-old has over one-hundred and ninety career appearances to his name having come through the ranks at Charlton Athletic. He joined Wednesday in January 2017 for an undisclosed fee after making one hundred and sixteen outings for the Addicks.

Our View

Fox may not be popular in parts of Sheffield, but he would be a decent League One full-back.

Sunderland are desperate for cover at left-back and Fox would be a decent addition.

Sunderland fans will be worried at his standing amongst Owls fans, but they shouldn’t be, Fox is a decent player, and if he re-captures the form he showed at Charlton, it could be an astute piece of business by the club.

The question is, does he want to prove the boo-boys wrong at Hillsborough or does he want to leave?

All will become clear in the next few days.
