The situation at Bolton Wanderers has suddenly taken a dire turn. The takeover they’ve been chasing all summer looked to be complete, but a late u-turn has seen the deal collapse into a heap.
That’s put the very existence of the famous club into question. They have until 5pm tomorrow to complete a deal otherwise the club’s membership of the Football League will be revoked. If that happens, it’s curtains for the four-time FA Cup winners.
Paul Appleton, on behalf of the club’s administrators, has posted an impassioned plea on their website, urging all parties to agree on a deal before the deadline. He’s been very, very clear on the outcome if they do not; the club will enter liquidation.
Bolton Wanderers, four-time FA Cup winners, three times runner up, three-time Second Division winners and a member of the Premier League for 13 seasons, will be gone.
It’s heartbreaking for all involved (not Ken Anderson, obviously). The fans, the staff and even the young players who have battled so diligently in their opening fixtures this season.
Naturally, the reaction has been pouring in on social media, some of which we’ve captured below to try and give the essence of fan’s feelings from across football.
Absolute joke at this stage

So heartbreaking, who would have thought it would come to this 10 years ago, a club I've supported for many years on the brink

They won’t attach any blame but there is only one person who has brought it to this point … step forward KEN ANDERSON!

Dear Mr Appleton, I have a memorial brick for my late brother by the Nat Lofthouse statue. If you liquidate BWFC, utter failure by your company, I want my brick back so I can place it in an appropriate place of my choice.

Time stop arguing and unite against the devil, we need national publicity to shame this monster into getting this done. @talkSPORT @SkyFootball

Omg this is horrendous!!! Bolton have been a huge part of my footballing life, the allardyce team was so entertaining! I hated them when they beat us 5-0 on the opening day of the season once, but that’s football! It would be a DISASTER if they went. Good luck in the next 24hrs

Sadly I think this is only ending one way now
