Chelsea and Liverpool in race to sign Exeter City record breaker

Chelsea and Liverpool are in a race to sign Exeter City youngster Ben Chrisene as reported by The Sun.

The fifteen-year-old midfielder became the Grecians youngest ever player when he made his full debut in an eighty-eighth-minute substitute appearance against Coventry in the Carabao Cup earlier this month.

The report claims Chelsea are determined to sign the prospect and have invited the England youth midfielder to train with them at their Cobham training ground.

Chrisene is currently scorching property having already trained with Liverpool and caught the eye of German giants Bayern Munich.

According to the report, Chelsea are hoping to win the race to sign the youngster once their transfer ban finishes, which they hope will be in January.

In becoming Exeter’s youngest player, Chrisene broke the record of Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu who the Premier League outfit signed from Exeter in 2017.

Our View

It doesn’t take long for Premier League clubs to get wind of prospects their extensive scouting networks may have earlier missed in their continued efforts to stockpile young talent.

We often question whether these moves are the best for the player?

Ampadu is one of a host of Blues youngster currently out on loan and Chrisene would be sure to follow in his nomadic footsteps eventually.

Surely his development is better served by staying at Exeter for as long as possible and playing first-team football?

However, when Premier League money comes calling, it is hard for the player and his club to turn it down.
