Blackpool close in on deal for highly rated Championship defender

Simon Grayson is hoping to wrap up a deal for Derby County youngster Callum MacDonald this week, as he suggested in an interview with Matt Scrafton of the Blackpool Gazette.

The Seasiders are currently level on points with five teams at the top of League One and are unbeaten after five matches. They’ve set an early pace under new manager Grayson, returning to the club for a second time.

He’s keen to add to his side after back to back draws against Gillingham and Rochdale and admitted to Scrafton that he was aware of the 21-year-old.

“He’s a player I’m aware of and have looked at,” he told The Gazette.

“You know me, I don’t comment on too many things, but I’m still looking to bring good players to the football club. If that one happens, then it will be done because he’s a good footballer.”

He had success on loan at non-League Barrow where he scored once in 21 appearances. That led to him appearing on the bench a number o times for the senior side.

Macdonald, is also a Scotland Under-21 international, making his debut in October 2016. He is primarily a left back but can also offer an option in midfield.

The Gazette believes the deal will be concluded in the early part of next week.
