‘Full of excuses’, ‘Evans out’ – Some Gillingham fans are not happy after another winless afternoon

Gillingham’s start to the season went from bad to worse as they were beaten 1-0 at St Andrew’s by Coventry City.

The Gills are without a win in the league under new manager Steve Evans, Dom Hyam’s first half goal enough to ensure they went home without three points yet again. It wasn’t a great performance by the visitors, they had less possession and were comfortably out-passed by a slick Sky Blues side.

They’re 18th on just two points, a tally that would normally see them in the bottom four, but thanks to Bolton and Bury’s situation is enough to keep their head above float, for now.

Manager Steve Evans was typically bullish after the game, claiming he would be in the transfer market (again) after being let down by his players.

“We go home disappointed,” said the former Leeds boss. “I think second half there is only one team trying to score a goal and their goalkeeper has made a stunning save.

“We knew it was going to take time from the minute we walked in the door. We will be active in the early part of the week in the transfer market. ”

Gills supporters are not easily conned though and after a heavy summer of recruitment they’re seeing the other side to Evans; unambitious football and average results.

They’re beginning to see the bigger picture though, as you’ll understand after reading some of the comments below.
