Gillingham interested in Leeds United youngster

Gillingham are one of several clubs interested in Leeds United youngster Ryan Edmondson as reported by Inside Football via The Athletic.

Leeds signed the teenage forward from York City two years ago, and he impressed enough in the Under-18 and the Under-23 sides to earn two substitute appearances in the Championship for the Yorkshire giants in the past two seasons.

However, he is not part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for the 2019/20 campaign and is set for a loan move to continue his development. He was a notable absentee in Leeds Under-23s earlier this week, and the Leeds hierarchy are keen for him to experience senior football in 2019/20 according to the report.

Edmondson is highly-regarded at Leeds, and although the Gills are interested, other clubs are looking to take the talented eighteen-year-old before the transfer window closes for the bottom two tiers of English football on September 2.

Our View

Edmondson seems set for a move after his absence for the Under-23s but will it be the Gills.

Evans still needs to strengthen his squad after a poor start to the campaign which sees them still looking for their first win.

However Gills fans might be asking do they need to strengthen the defence rather than attack after a leaky start to the season.

Nonetheless, Edmundson is a real talent and might be the spark the team needs to start winning matches.
