Plymouth Argyle have signed Rangers forward Zak Rudden on a six-month loan deal with the option to extend.
The teenager moves south after an eye-catching loan spell last season in the Scottish Championship with Falkirk where he scored twelve goals in thirty-two appearances, form which caused their manager Ray McKinnon to describe the young prospect as ‘phenomenal’.
Steven Gerrard’s side boasts an impressive strike-force consisting of former England international Jermaine Defoe and Colombian marksman Alfredo Morelos meaning first-team opportunities are rare for the nineteen-year-old, and Rangers have allowed him to continue his development at Home Park this season.
Rudden first caught Argyle boss Ryan Lowe’s eye after netting a goal in Rangers’ 6-0 pre-season victory over his Bury side in 2018-19 pre-season, and the Pilgrims’ manager has kept close tabs on him since.
He is yet to make a senior appearance for Rangers but boast international recognition for Scotland at at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 level.
Our View
Lowe now boasts an embarrassment of riches upfront and Rudden will have his work cut out to dislodge Dom Telford, Joel Grant, Byron Moore and Ryan Taylor from the first-team.
However, the boy can certainly play, and his more experienced teammates will certainly be looking over their shoulder as he challenges for their place.
The Pilgrims will no doubt also benefit from the competition for places this excellent piece of business will promote in the Plymouth squad.
