‘Ridiculous decision, Curle will be gone by Christmas’ – Plenty of Northampton fans are furious as striker departs

Junior Morias has left Northampton Town, signing a two-year contract at SPFL side St Mirren for an undisclosed fee.

The striker was signed from Peterborough by previous Cobblers boss Dean Austin last summer, but since Keith Curle took control in October 2018, he’s made just seven starts for the club and was made available for transfer at the end of last season.

Curle has used the popular striker in an impact substitute role for the majority of his time in charge and told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo the twenty-four-year-old was keen to leave Sixfields to play more minutes. He said: ‘As an impact player, he is excellent, but would Junior have settled for being an impact player? No, he wouldn’t.’

‘He wanted more game time; he wanted that regular game time, that selection-wise I couldn’t afford him.’

Morias began his career at Wycombe Wanderers, before a spell in non-league with Boreham Wood and St Albans City. He made the switch to League One Peterborough United in January 2017, where he scored eleven goals in fifty-one appearances.

The Jamaican follows in the footsteps of former teammate Sam Foley who signed for the Buddies at the beginning of August, and it seems plenty of Cobblers fans feel like the club has made a massive mistake in letting him go.

Many fans heavily criticised manager Keith Curle when they reacted to the news on social media with the scrutiny of his decisions no doubt intensified by their poor start to the season.

Some supporters are already predicting Curle will be gone by Christmas as the following selection of responses to the news on Twitter illustrates.
