Jack Ross makes interesting Sunderland transfer revelation

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has given fans a hint of his future plans in the transfer market during his press conference this afternoon.

The former St Mirren man looked relaxed facing the press on the back of three straight wins, much more so than ahead of the Accrington game in the League Cup. His side overcame Rochdale in midweek to make it two wins from two in the league.

The transfer window is still open in League One and Ross is likely to strengthen his squad, despite having an impressive array of stars at his disposal. However, no business is likely to be conducted ahead of the weekend clash with Wimbledon at the Stadium of Light.

“Nothing is imminent on the transfer front,” he said this afternoon. “But we’re hopeful at the beginning of next week we will be able to strengthen.”

Whilst they have options up front, it’s believed they need a wide midfield player to take the pressure away from Lynden Gooch and Aiden McGeady, as well as a left back. Conor McLaughlin has been playing out of position since the departure of Reece James and Bryan Oviedo.

In Black Cats injury news, Marc McNulty is set to miss out once more, meaning another start for Charlie Wyke.

Our View

Sunderland are a big club with a big squad, yet they’re desperately short in some areas. They are one of the sides in the division expected to be at the top and whilst most managers would be delighted to work with their current squad, Ross needs help there.

He’s under huge pressure to get his side playing better football and pushing up the league. They’re in a good place to do just that, but they’ll certainly want to add quality before September 2nd.
