Signing Liverpool midfielder looks unlikely in the latest blow for Doncaster Rovers

After Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane was spotted in the stands of the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, many Doncaster Rovers fans felt it was a sign a return of the popular youngster was imminent.

Kane enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with Rovers last season, but after local journalist and deputy head of sport at the Sheffield Star Liam Hoden tweeted that they should not get their hopes up a reunion now looks highly unlikely.

Notwithstanding the recent season-long loan signing of highly-regarded Tottenham Hotspur striker Kazaiah Sterling, Rovers squad still looks light on numbers and quality following the departure of several of last season’s successful playoff reaching group.

However, despite Kane’s attendance at Rovers first win of the season a new destination looks to be on the cards for the talented youngster who extended his contract with Liverpool last season.

The twenty-year-old scored seven goals in forty-nine appearances for Donny during the 2018/19 campaign, and several clubs are reportedly interested in a loan move for the prospect, including Coventry City and Portsmouth.

Our View

Many Doncaster fans will be reeling from the latest blow and will continue to question the club’s transfer policy.

The sale of Marquis was reported to be for a fee of £2 million, but supporters have seen little or no reinvestment into the team.

Darren Moore has failed to capture several summer targets, and Kane now appears to be a name added to the list.

It has been a frustrating summer at the Keepmoat and results will need to be decent to keep the fans happy, if not then the pressure on Moore and the club will intensify.
