The desperate situation at Bury has taken another turn today, with fans bracing themselves for the worst at the end of this week.
They’ve seen yet another game suspended, this time against Tranmere Rovers, and have until August 23rd to prevent themselves being removed from the league altogether.
In addition to having the Tranmere match put off, Sheffield Wednesday have been given a bye in the League Cup, as their encounter with the Shakers was also suspended.
This is the fifth league fixture to be suspended by the EFL as it feels it has not received financial assurances from rogue owner Steve Dale as to the club’s ability to pay its way in the coming weeks.
Dale, who has today reportedly rejected a bid for the club that could save it, has recently been involved in an on-air spat with player Stephen Dawson, who called his chairman a liar when they discussed payments.
Sadly, paying players seems to be a long way down the list of priorities for the Bury businessman, who has driven them to within three days of folding.
As you’d imagine, fans have reacted on Twitter to the EFL’s statement this afternoon.

Steve Dale and the EFL killing a club that's been around for well over a century.
Fit and proper my arse.
Everyone should be ashamed.

I love the fact that their record will be expunged, they have not even played you dick heads so there is nothing to expunge!!! How long before it's a 22 team league?
