‘How they got him?’, ‘Going to destroy League Two’ – Plenty of fans react as Newcastle striker makes Carlisle move

Carlisle United have added to their ranks this afternoon by bringing in Newcastle United striker Elias Sorensen on a one-year loan deal, as revealed by their official site.

The 19-year-old is a Denmark Under 21 international with two goals in two games for his country at that level. He began his career at HB Køge before being spotted by the Magpies in 2016. He signed for them after a short trial period but hasn’t made a first team appearance.

He joined League One side Blackpool on loan last season, but played just once for the Seasiders before returning to the north east. He has made a series of EFL Trophy appearances for Newcastle’s Under 21 side, scoring four times in five matches last season.

Despite his lack of senior football, Steven Pressly is delighted to land him on loan for the Cumbrians.

“We’re delighted that we’ve got this over line,” he told the club’s official site.

“He was a main target, then he dropped off the radar, but it came alive again last week and we’ve managed to see it through.

“He can play as the number 9, or he can play tucked in close to the 9 and just off to the side. That’s not as a wide player, but tucked in tight and ready to react.”

Supporters from both sides have been reacting to the move on Twitter, with Carlisle fans seemingly delighted with their capture. Newcastle fans are also excited for the move, beliving their young prospect should be a hit in the basement division.
