Southend United are eying a loan move for Manchester United youngster Ethan Hamilton who is also on the wishlist of League One rivals Bolton and Peterborough as reported by the Daily Mail.
The twenty-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at Rochdale in the second half of last season making fourteen League One appearances. His impressive midfield performances and four-goal contribution helped the Dale preserve their third-tier status.
The Mail claims Rochdale would love to see Hamilton return to Spotland, but the competition for his signature is fierce with Southend now joining the chase as they look to bolster their midfield ranks following the departure of Dru Yearwood to Brentford.
Hamilton is yet to make a senior Old Trafford appearance, but he has impressed at Under-23 level and signed a new contract with the Premier League giants last summer.
Our View
Hamilton impressed at Rochdale last season, and it is no surprise League One clubs are interested in furthering his development with the offer of first-team football.
Many United fans feel he should get a first-team chance, but standards and demands at Old Trafford are almost impossibly high, and it’s tough for any youngster to break into the team.
Another loan move looks likely, and Southend are desperate for midfield cover, and it would be a real coup for Kevin Bond if he manages to land the youngster.
Hamilton is known for his hardworking performances and possesses an eye for goal.
He would be a tremendous signing for Southend.
