Shrewsbury Town have been linked with a loan move for Bristol City midfielder Liam Walsh.
According to the Shropshire Star, Shrews boss Sam Ricketts is tracking the twenty-one-year-old, but the Robins correspondent for Bristol Live Gregor MacGregor has tweeted this morning head coach Lee Johnson would prefer a move to a Championship club for his talented youngster.

The Star claims should Walsh miss out on a Championship loan, the Robins could give the green light for him to make a League One move.
Walsh has made eighteen senior appearances for City since arriving from Everton in January 2018 for an undisclosed fee. He came through the ranks at the Toffees but failed to make the grade at Goodison Park, and the Robins snapped him up after he showed his potential during loan spells at Birmingham City and Yeovil Town.
The Star also claims Salop are interested in West Brom midfielder Sam Field with the situation very similar to that of Walsh. The Championship transfer window closes for incomings at 5 pm today, but League’s One and Two can continue to do business until 2 September, putting a new slant on their transfer dealings, something which Ricketts explained when talking to the Star. He said: ‘It’s a hard one, this is the first time it (the deadline) has happened like this.’
‘Last year everyone finished on the same day. This year League One and League Two get another move and Conference can do anything whenever they want to.’
‘It does add a different dynamic to the transfer window. But it’s a tough one, our season has already started, and you want players in as soon as you can.’
‘But at the same time there might be one or two players that become available after that weren’t before, so you’re trying to keep space back in your squad for that one extra something special to come in.’
‘That’s why you try to keep one or two loan players back.’
Our View
A fascinating insight in today’s dealings from Ricketts.
Like a lot of managers in the lower leagues, he will be watching on with interest the comings and goings in the Championship and Premier League hoping that potential targets remain a possibility after 5 pm this evening.
Walsh is another excellent young Bristol City player and would add real quality to Ricketts midfield which looks short on both numbers and ability at present.
Salop fans will have their fingers crossed that he will still be available by the close of business today.
