Colchester United in talks with former Arsenal full-back

Former Arsenal full-back Cohen Bramall is in talks to join Colchester United on a permanent deal as reported bt Sky Sports. Live Transfer Centre, 1/8/19, 10:22).

Bramall is a free agent after leaving Arsenal earlier this summer upon the expiration of his contract at the Emirates. He was signed by Arsene Wenger from non-league Hednesford Town in 2017 but failed to make a senior appearance for the Gunners. In a departing shot at the club, the twenty-three-year-old criticised Unai Emery for not having ‘a conversation with him once.’

Bramall does have EFL experience having made eight appearances in a season-long loan spell at Birmingham City in 2017/18. HITC Sport claims the full-back has decided to move to Colchester in search of regular first-team football and is set to sign a two-year deal.

HITC Sport also claims Brammall chose the U’s over several Championship and League One clubs who were interested in securing his services.

Our View

U’s boss John McGreal is an astute mover in the market, and this could be another shrewd piece of business.

Brammall needs to stop talking and start playing, and Colchester could be just the right place for him to get his career on track.

Under McGreal’s tutorage, he could gain the game time and experience he needs to make a career at a higher level and benefit the U’s in the process.
