Blackpool look set to add further firepower to their burgeoning ranks by adding 22-year-old Blackburn striker Joe Nuttall to the squad on a permanent deal, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph.
Nuttall had been expected to leave Rovers on loan in January, with the Real EFL understanding Lincoln City had been poised to sign him, but a change of heart at Blackburn afforded him a first team chance. Two goals in three matches convinced Tony Mowbray to keep him around the squad, but he hasn’t scored since and is now ripe for an Ewood Park departure.
Blackpool boss Simon Grayson has already added Ryan Hardie to his ranks this summer, with Armand Gnanduillet, Adi Yussuf and Delfouneso making up an impressive-looking attack.
Bury-born striker Nuttall began his career as a youth with Manchester City but later moved to Aberdeen, spending spells on loan with Dumbarton and Stranraer. He was released in the summer of 2017, but impressed during a trial and earned a move south of the border to Rovers.
He’s scored eight times in 37 matches for Mowbray’s side but is now being allowed to leave on a permanent deal.
Our View
Nuttall has the right attributes to be a hit at Blackpool, but someone is going to miss out somewhere along the line. Grayson can’t play five forwards, two are unlikely to be even getting regular football from the bench.
It’s likely Nuttall and Hardie will play plenty of games, which might mean last season’s leading scorer Gnanduillet is left out in the cold. You also have to wonder how much Yussuf will play, given that he was a Terry McPhillips signing.
Could he be heading out on loan before the transfer window shuts?
