Sky Sports reported a few weeks ago that Grimsby were keen on the versatile defender and that Dundalk had rejected an initial bid for his services. It now looks like the Mariners have tried again to land the former Northern Ireland Under-21 international captain.
Dummigan only signed for Dundalk in February on a long-term contract after a three-year injury hampered spell with Oldham. He made eighty-five appearances in total for the Latics who he joined permanently in 2016 on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Burnley following three successful loan spells at Boundary Park in 2015/16.
He rose through the ranks a Turf Moor and made the first-team bench on four occasions. Although he did not make a senior outing in Sean Dyche’s team, Dummigan did play under Mariners boss Michael Jolley during his time as a youth player for the Clarets.
He was voted Oldham’s Young Player of the Year in 2017 and Sky reported that two unnamed League One clubs were monitoring his progress when they broke the story of Grimsby’s initial bid two weeks ago.

Our View
Grimsby boss Michael Jolley is obviously keen on Dummigan but can the Mariners afford to take him to Blundell Park?
He is highly rated in Ireland and just signed a long-term deal so it would appear Dundalk are not letting him go cheap.
We still feel it would be a gamble signing but one that could work if Dummigan finally puts his injury trouble behind him and re-captures the form that made him highly rated at Burnley and impressed Oldham supporters when he first arrived at Boundary Park.
If Jolley wants his man, it sounds like the Grimsby board will have to back their manager with some more cash.
