‘Far too good to be playing League 2’ – These Tranmere fans rate Macclesfield Town’s latest signing

Macclesfield Town have signed Fleetwood Town defender Eddie Clarke on a season-long loan deal.

The twenty-year-old made five appearances in Joey Barton’s side last season following his arrival from Tranmere Rovers.

The young full-back began his career on Birkenhead and made his debut on the final day of the 2016/17 season at Maidstone United. He went on to play a further fifteen times in the league for Rovers, including an outstanding substitute appearance in the Super White Army’s National League play-off Final victory over Boreham Wood at Wembley Stadium.

He joined Fleetwood last summer on a free transfer and many Rovers fans felt the club should have done more to try and keep him. While Macclesfield fans reacted to the news of the signing on social media by worrying about what this means for the future of popular left-back David Fitzpatrick, Tranmere fans were quick to praise the young player and inform fans of the Silkmen they had signed an excellent full-back.

Some fans pointed out that Clarke didn’t exactly look pleased to be signing for the cash-strapped Silkmen on the publicity photo.

Here is a selection of their responses to the news on Twitter.
