Swindon Town taking a look at former Aston Villa midfielder

Swindon Town are taking a look at former Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Lyden according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon is usually a reliable source of transfer information, and he has tweeted today that Swindon are interested in the twenty-three-year-old Australian.

Villa released Lyden at the end of last season after fourteen years at Villa Park. He made just eight senior appearances for the club including four in the Premier League. Injury hampered his time at B6, and he was loaned out to Swindon’s League Two rivals Oldham Athletic last season. He made fourteen outings for the Latics and played in their memorable FA Cup giant-killing over Fulham in January.

Lyden was reported to be training with Southend in the early part of the summer and rumours of an Oldham return continue on social media, but it now appears Swindon are monitoring his situation with Richie Wellens looking to build a squad at the County Ground capable of making a push for promotion next season.

Our View

Nixon is usually reliable, so there is probably something in this.

However, Oldham fans are speculating that Lyden is set to return to Boundary Park.

Lyden was highly-rated by many Villa fans and will add quality to any League Two midfield.

Swindon boss Wellens is looking to mount a promotion bid Lyden would be an excellent addition to his squad.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but our money is still on an Oldham return.
