Ipswich Town reject revised QPR bid for Judge

Ipswich Town have rejected a revised bid of £450,000 from QPR for midfielder Alan Judge according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon is usually a reliable source of transfer news, and he tweeted his latest claim this morning.

A bid of £250,000 was rejected last week with Town manager Paul Lambert insisting the offer was ‘absolutely nowhere near’ a figure that would tempt the club to part with the thirty-year-old playmaker when speaking to the local press.

Judge joined Ipswich in January from Brentford on an initial short-term deal for an undisclosed fee but extended his stay in April when he signed a two-year contract.

The Irishman has yet to feature in pre-season due to the fractured wrist he suffered playing for the Republic of Ireland in June, but he has been training with the first-team and could soon be close to a return.

QPR boss Mark Warburton is a known admirer of Judge from their time working together at Griffin Park, but Lambert dismissed reports the player wanted to leave when speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times at the weekend, suggesting the midfielder was happy at Portman Road. Nonetheless, he also said ‘everybody has a value.’

Nixon is now claiming Judge wants to leave, and with the money on offer on the rise, it might be difficult for Ipswich to turn down.

Our View

If Nixon is accurate, it may be that QPR are getting close to a level that Ipswich might find acceptable, especially if the player wants to leave.

Many fans feel if they receive anything over £500,000, they should take the money.

However, those that feel Judge is worth double that and more are probably mistaken.

Judge is a talented player and will be excellent in League One, but if he does want to go and play Championship football, it might be better he goes, and as Lambert confirmed, everybody has their price.

League One is a tough challenge and Lambert will need everyone pulling together if they are to make an immediate return to the Championship.
