Burton Albion set to sign 25-year-old midfielder

Burton Albion are set to sign Hearts midfielder Ryan Edwards with the move expected to be completed in the next few days as reported by the Edinburgh News.

Edwards signed for Hearts on a two-year deal last summer after leaving Partick Thistle following their relegation from the Scottish Premiership. He was loaned out to St Mirren in the first half of last season before returning to Tynecastle in January. His first-team opportunities were limited, but he came back into the reckoning towards the end of the campaign, starting two league games and the Scottish Cup Final, scoring the opener at Hampden Park before Celtic went on to lift the cup.

The report claims the Australian is keen for regular football and feels this may not happen in Edinburgh. He has been allowed to seek a move elsewhere by SPFL outfit.

The central midfielder does have some EFL experience. He began his career at Reading where he spent time on loan at Fleetwood Town and Tranmere Rovers before securing a permanent move to Partick Thistle in 2015. He made one hundred and eight appearances for the Jags before moving on to Tynecastle.

He now looks set to join another former Jambo David Templeton at the Pirelli Stadium.

Our View

Edwards would be an excellent signing by Nigel Clough

Many Hearts fans are nonplussed by his failure to establish himself in Craig Levine’s plans.

He is tremendously hard-working and can play in a variety of roles in midfield.

His search for first-team football means he is hungry and ambitious; just the sought of character you need in a dressing room.

He will bring energy to the Brewers engine room and could excel in League One.
