Rotherham United have agreed a fee to take Ross County midfielder Jamie Lindsay to the New York Stadium, hot on the heels of seeling Semi Ajayi to West Brom.
Football Insider reports that Paul Warne’s side have agreed a fee thought to be around £300,000 for the former Celtic youth, who helped Ross County to promotion into the Scottish top flight last season.
The Millers have already had one bid rejected for the 23-year-old, who made 48 appearances last season, scoring nine times. He joined the Staggies last June having been on loan there the season before.
Rotherham had an injection of cash from the sale of midfielder Ajayi, who left them last week for an undisclosed fee. The Nigerian joined Slaven Bilic’s West Brom in the Championship after a superb season in the Miller’s relegated side.
Ross County co-manager Stuart Kettlewell had been relaxed about speculation linking Rotherham with Lindsay earlier in the summer, admitting every player had a price.
“Every player has their value, we are not scared to lose players,” he said. “If we’re losing players to big clubs for big fees then we’re obviously doing something right.”
“We think the world of Jamie — he’s been great for us. But we’re not fickle enough to think that if somebody comes in with a substantial bid we can turn that down.”
Our View
Lindsay has a good background, coming through the Celtic ranks gives him the sort of coaching in his youth the very best youngsters in Scotland can get. He didn’t break through but impressed enough to suggest a move south of the border might lead to success.
It’s a road well-trodden, the likes of Dylan McGeouch and John McGinn have successfully dropped out of the Scottish top flight and impressed in the English divisions. It’ll be interesting to see how Lindsay fares at Rotherham, a side sure to be around the promotion hunt this season.
