Former Coventry City defender Jack Grimmer has joined Wycombe Wanderers on trial as reported by the Coventry Telegraph.
The twenty-five-year-old played in a friendly for the Chairboys last night and is hoping to secure a contract at Adams Park according to the report.
He played an hour as Gareth Ainsworth’s side beat non-league Woking 3-2 and caught the eye with an assist.
The full-back is a free agent following his release by Sky Blues’ boss Mark Robins at the end of last season.
Grimmer became a favourite of the Coventry faithful following his arrival from Fulham in 2017. He was a virtual ever-present in their League Two promotion-winning campaign and scored a stunning goal in their playoff final victory over Exeter at Wembley. He also scored a goal against Stoke in their FA Cup victory over the then Premier League side and was named in the League Two Team of the Season for 2017/18.
However, the arrival of Chelsea on loan teenager Dujon Sterling last season saw his game time limited to just eleven League One outings, and he left the club when his contract expired.
Bolton Wanderers, Exeter City and Blackpool have all been reportedly eyeing a move for the Scot ahead of the new season, but it now looks like Wycombe are in the driving seat to land his signature.
Our View
Grimmer would be a fantastic signing by Ainsworth.
He frustratingly fell out of favour last season at Coventry, but he was brilliant for them in 2017/18.
It appears he impressed last night and the Chairboys now look favourites for his services.
He is attack-minded but solid and aggressive defensively and would be a real asset at Adams Park next season.
