Mickey Demetriou has signed a new two-year contract with Newport County.
The twenty-nine-year-old defender has become a vital member of the Exiles side under boss Michael Flynn since arriving at Rodney Parade in 2017.
He has made one hundred and twenty-six appearances for Newport and helped the club avoid relegation in his first season, contributing four goals in the last seven games of the clubs famous ‘Great Escape.’ The colossal defender has also played a pivotal role in the Exiles two famous FA Cup runs and their late surge into the League Two play-off final last season which ended in an agonising extra-time defeat to Tranmere Rovers.
A firm fan favourite, Demetriou joins midfielder Joss Labadie in committing his future to the Welsh outfit for a further two years, and Newport fans greeted the news with delight on social media.
Manager Flynn has made some astute signings and managed to keep the majority of last seasons squad together, but the re-signing of their defensive lynchpin has got some dreaming of promotion.
