‘Why don’t we loan him out?’ – Some Peterborough fans respond as chairman praises 21-year-old

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes that striker Matt Stevens would score 20 goals in League Two next season, hot on the heels of asking Forest Green to ‘get real’ with their valuation of him.

Stevens is on the transfer list at London Road but took part in last night’s heavy friendly win against Stamford Town. His performance was enough to prompt a fan to ask MacAnthony to keep the former Barnet man, who has had prolific loan spells with Kettering and Slough.

The Posh chairman said: “The lad won’t be happy if he doesn’t get game time so it’s right for him & career if a club buys him. He’ll score 20 plus goals in L2 all day long this season imo.”

Whilst that was probably intended to give any interested clubs a nudge to make a bid, it actually prompted Peterborough supporters to wonder why he wasn’t offered a loan spell but kept on by the club.

After all, Posh are a side who have made a great success out of cultivating striker so, if Stevens is as good as their owner believes, why would he not look to build up his value with a loan move? That’s certainly the feeling amongst these supporters on social media.
