Sunderland look set to cut their losses on one-time Manchester United man Donald Love, with a move to Shrewsbury on the cards as reported by the Sunderland Echo.
24-year-old Love is closing in on a switch to Salop, putting a miserable three years behind him at the Stadium of Light.
He joined when the club were still in the Premier League, in a deal thought to be worth just over £1m. He arrived at the same time as Paddy McNair for a combined fee of £5.5m but saw two relegations in as many seasons.
The right back did not impress at all last season in League One, appearing just four times for the Black Cats under Ross. He started the first four matches of the campaign but was ousted by Bryan Oviedo and wasn’t seen again in any competitions.
Now, with a year left on his contract, he’s being allowed to move to Shrewsbury for free and it seems few will be shedding a tear for him.
Criticism of the defender has been scathing on social media, as you’ll see from a selection of cutting messages below.
