Hull City have signed former Gillingham striker Tom Eaves on a three-year contract.
The twenty-seven-year-old striker, who has been Gills top scorer in the last two seasons, rejected the offer of a new contract in May and has decided to join Grant McCann’s Hull City in the Championship.
Having started his career with Oldham Athletic, Eaves spent six years at Bolton Wanderers where he enjoyed loan spells at Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury, Bury, Rotherham and Yeovil Town before joining the Glovers permanently in 2016.
After a season in the South-West Eaves hit form after signing for Gillingham in 2017, scoring forty times in ninety-seven appearances across all competitions during his two-years at the Kent outfit. He ended 2018/19 with a total of twenty-two goals, and his performances earned him the Gills’ Players’ Player of the Season award,
Hull claim they have beaten off interest from several other clubs to secure Eaves services.
Our View
At 6ft 3in Eaves is the classic example of a good touch for a big man and he could well thrive at Hull.
His form over the last two years In League One suggests the step up will not be a problem.
He’s scored goals regularly in a team that have often struggled and should be a great addition to Grant McCann’s squad.
Gillingham fans will be disappointed but will no doubt wish him all the best and hope the club can quickly move on and find a suitable replacement for next season.
