The EFL have attempted to bring some level of agreement to two sides that have caused them problems in the past; AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons.
They’ve released a statement saying an agreement has been reached where Wimbledon will refer to their opponents in the correct manner. It comes after trouble flared in 2017 when they refused to refer to the Dons in their matchday literature.
For those who don’t know, not there are many out there, the bad blood stems from MK Dons taking over the ‘old’ Wimbledon and moving them to Milton Keynes. The ‘real’ Wimbledon then formed a phoenix side that rose through the divisions and gained their Football League status.
That eventually led to the two meeting in league competition, as well as facing off in the cup. This season they weren’t due to play at Wimbledon’s temporary Kingsmeadow ground until 2020, but the EFL Cup draw has pitted the two together.
“Following further discussions, it has been agreed that AFC Wimbledon will now meet a number of conditions set out by the League whilst mediation continues,” the EFL statement said.
“These include featuring the name of the MK Dons on the website, match tickets, match programmes, teamsheets and scoreboard (as applicable) in a manner that is consistent with all other teams that visit the Cherry Red Records Stadium.”
The statement has brought a huge amount of people to Twitter to express their opinion, as you’ll read below.

Good to see the EFL focusing on the important stuff like clubs not liking each other, rather than the clubs going belly up. Well done. Reckon fans of #buryfc, #bwfc, #Notts, #Silkmen, #PUSB all feel the same…..

Still badgering Wimbledon about how to use a rival club's name. Meanwhile, @HullCity were allowed to deliberately misuse their own name for several years just to spite their fans while the EFL actively refused to get involved when asked.

This is what you're faffing about with when there are clubs having real problems?! Tell you what, start by apologising for your role in creating this mess in the first place, then show Wimbledon some respect and ban Milton Keynes from using our nickname in their team name.
