Ryan Lowe started his reign as Plymouth Argyle boss with a 1-0 loss last night at Truro City who currently play in the seventh tier of English football.
Results in pre-season friendlies are never usually an accurate barometer of what to expect in the coming season for any supporter, but this did not stop some fans reacting rather negatively to the result on social media.
While some of the comments were quite obviously made with tongue firmly in cheek, some fans felt it necessary to leap to their new manager’s defence.
Lowe has undoubtedly got the Green Army excited for the coming season, with kick-off having to be delayed to safely accommodate 1500 fans who had made the trip to watch the game which ended in a disappointing defeat to the non-league outfit managed by ex-Pilgrim favourite Paul Wooton.
Plymouth fielded a far from full strength side and gave twenty-three players their first run-out of the season.
For Lowe, the night was all about fitness, not the result. He told Plymouth Live: You will always want to win games, but that (the result) doesn’t bother me at all.’
‘We have three and a half weeks now until the first game of the season against Crewe Alexandra, and that is what we are building towards.’
Many fans seemed to agree with their new boss, as this selection of responses to the result on Twitter illustrates.
