Fleetwood sign Rangers midfielder on season-long loan

Joey Barton has made a move to strengthen his midfield with the capture of Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter on a season-long loan.

Rossiter has struggled at Ibrox since arriving from Liverpool in 2016 on a four-year deal. A series of injuries hindered his progress and limited him to sixteen appearances during his three years in Glasgow.

The twenty-two-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at League Two Bury and stayed relatively injury free in making sixteen league appearances. He played an influential role in helping the Shakers win promotion to League One as runners-up to champions Lincoln City.

Rossiter also made five appearances in Steven Gerrard’s side last season, but it now seems likely the move to Highbury signals the end of his Rangers career as he is about to enter the final year of his contract at Ibrox.

Joey Barton knows the player well having played alongside him on five occasions during the Fleetwood manager’s brief and controversial eight-game stint at Rangers in 2016.

Our View

Good signing for Fleetwood if they can keep him fit.

Rossiter was excellent for a free-flowing Bury last season, often plugging the gaps and providing a midfield anchor for their swashbuckling style.

He is a handy addition to Barton’s squad, and the midfielder will no doubt be looking to build on the progress he made last season which can only be a good thing for Fleetwood.
