Exeter City unveiled striker Nicky Ajose yesterday, have allegedly pinched him from under the noses of Blackpool and Lincoln City.
Whilst paper talk linked those clubs, Exeter turned the rumour into reality with an imaginative reveal on their club’s social media account. The 27-year-old arrives as a free agent, having been released by Charlton.
He began his career with Manchester United, enjoying a loan spell with Bury before moving to Peterborough. He struggled to kick on after that and has played for Leeds and Swindon, as well as Charlton.
He failed to reach double figures in 60 outings for the Addicks but joins the Grecians on the back of two goals in 11 for Mansfield on loan.
The move has been seen as a coup by Exeter fans, buoyed by the rumour they’ve beaten League One clubs to his signature. They’ve flocked to social media to express their delight but, mixed in amongst their excitement, there are plenty of words of warning.
We look at the responses from fans of the clubs he represented previously for an alternative view.
It’s really not

I reckon he’ll be a good signing for you. He just didn’t click with us

Strange one Nicky, just never got going at all with Charlton! Odd one or two but that’s about it! Decent record at league 2 level though so great signing for Exeter

Good luck with that.

Felt a bit sorry for him when we had him, his best game was away at Colchester, scored and assisted twice. Missed a penalty away at Port Vale which he shouldn’t have ever taken, there’s definitely a good player there. He wouldn’t have a chance at us now with the 2 we’ve signed.

He played for us at @mansfieldtownfc last season and he’s got bags of potential but he’s a proper loner…looks like he’s being forced to play the game instead of loving it. Even on your launch video he’s miserable too – best of luck for 2019/20, hope you finish above Plymouth!
