‘Starting to get a little worried now’ – These Sunderland fans react as club announces triple capture

Sunderland unveiled a triple signing this morning, but not the sort supporters were hoping to see.

They’ve added to their Under 23 offering, with Ruben Sammut, Ahmed Abdelkader and former Everton youngster Michael Collins all having penned one-year deals.

Sammut comes from Chelsea and has senior experience from a loan spell with Falkirk in the Scottish Championship. Abdelkader has been playing in Cyprus with ENAD FC Popis Chrysochous and Collins had been Goodison Park since his early teens.

All three will go straight into the Under 23 squad for the coming season, with the Black Cats hoping the next Joel Asoro or Josh Maja might be amongst them.

Whilst their youth ranks have produced plenty of young players over recent years, it’s not the sort of area fans want to see them strengthening in. They’re being cautious to the point of excruciating in the transfer market, with just Conor McLaughlin and Lee Burge signing deals at the moment.

That’s led one or two fans to overlook the potential is today’s deals and focus on the lack of first team acquisitions.
