Lincoln City unveiled their latest summer signing, capturing former Huddersfield man Jack Payne, as revealed by their Twitter feed.
Payne has been a free agent since leaving the Terriers and had recently been linked with both Blackburn and Birmingham, but has rather surprisingly turned up at Sincil, Bank.
He spent last season on loan at Bradford where he bagged nine goals, adding to the eight-goal haul from his spells with Oxford and Blackburn the season before.
Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley told the club website how delighted he was to secure the second signing of the summer.
“It’s a fantastic signing, it’s one we’ve been working hard on all summer. Jack’s a boy we know well, he started his career at Southend and had a fantastic early education there and a had really bright spell which enabled him to get a move to Huddersfield in the Championship then he played a big part in them getting to the Premier League.”
The Imps are about to embark on their first season in the third tier this millennium, having previously had one year in the old Division Two back in 1998/99.
It’s certainly a signing that screams ambition, with supporters keen to express their delight at the capture on social media.
