Player sponsorship is a key way for clubs to make some additional revenue through the season.
it’s never going to raise enough to but a player, not in today’s market, but it’s a nice way to connect fans with players and increase the bank balance at the same time.
Prices vary, but at Coventry City the price is around £100, as revealed in their recent advert. They’re asking for fans to pick a player to sponsor and, for their money, they get a signed shirt as well as their name on the player’s page in the programme.
Whilst that’s all well and good for players who are popular, one young man who represents the Sky Blues has made himself the target of abuse on this Twitter message.
Youth team player Jak Hickman was filmed on holiday boasting of ‘heavy pockets’, rubbing white powder into his gums and saying ‘f*** Cov’ as he did so. The youngster, without a senior appearance, might not be a key figure for Mark Robins’ side, but he’s certainly become the focus of the replies here.
His pockets won’t be getting any heavier from player sponsorship, that’s almost certain from the replies below.
You are sponsoring Hickman's pockets?
