League One rivals Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury are both thought to be keen on transfer-listed Peterborough stopper Aaron Chapman, as reported by Bristol Live.
The 29-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at London Road, with Christy Pym arriving from Exeter City. He found himself on the transfer list at the end of the campaign but is now set for a tug-of-war between Salop and the Gas.
Graham Coughlan’s side have already signed Jordi van Stappershoef, but have seen both Adam Smith and Sam Slocombe leave the club. They’ll almost certainly be in the hunt for another stopper, with Chapman a solid prospect.
The Rotherham-born keeper began his career with Belper Town before a move to Chesterfield. He struggled to break through with the Spireites, but a move to Accrington Stanley proved to be a catalyst for his development.
He made 60 appearances over a two-year period for Stanley, helping them to win League Two before joining Posh. He made 23 appearances for them last season, but fell out of favour under new manager Darren Ferguson.
Our View
Chapman is a decent stopper and would provide either cover or competition at both clubs. Bristol Rovers have added wisely at the back, but it’s all futile if they don’t have a competent keeper between the sticks.
As for Shrewsbury, they have Reice Charles-Cook, Cameron Gregory and Sam Agius on their books, but are looking to replace Steve Arnold who recently joined Northampton Town.
Both clubs would be wise to up their efforts, as long as the Peterborough valuation is realistic.
