Lincoln City finally entered the transfer market this summer, signing Wales Under 21 international Joe Morrell on a season-long loan from Bristol City.
Morrell, who made four appearances for the Robins this season, can play on the left of midfield or through the centre. He started three FA Cup matches this season, but his previous experience in the senior game came during a 37-game loan spell with Cheltenham Town.
The Ipswich-born schemer told the Imps’ official site he was delighted to have signed for the club: “I am really excited to be here, it’s a club with a lot of upwards momentum,” he said.
“It’s brilliant to get it sorted so early into the pre-season stages, so I can get to know the surroundings and the team, and they can get to know me.”
Manager Danny Cowley, always a shrewd operator in the early stages of a transfer window, was equally as delighted to have bagged his man.
“He’s young and is very hungry to succeed and has a real infectious and enthusiastic love for the game,” the 40-year-old told redimps.com.
“He’s an intelligent player, with wonderful vision and awareness and receives the ball really well, so he adds a real creativity to our group and our play.”
Supporters from both Bristol City and Cheltenham have wished the youngster well on social media, with Imps fans welcoming him to Sincil Bank.
One comment came from former Lincoln and Cheltenham midfielder John Finnigan, now employed by the Gloucestershire club as commercial manager.
