Tranmere Rovers chasing experienced 32-year-old defender

Tranmere Rovers are keen on experienced defender Calum Woods who was recently released by Bradford City.

Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has tweeted that Rovers are chasing the versatile full-back who also offers central defensive cover.

The Bantams signed Woods in January from Preston on a deal which ran to the end of the season but released him at the end of the campaign that saw them relegated to League Two.

The thirty-two-year-old made eighty-two appearances for Preston after joining in 2014 and was part of the squad to achieve promotion to the Championship a year later.

Having come through the ranks at Liverpool, he enjoyed a long spell in Scotland with Dunfermline before moving back south to Huddersfield where he spent three seasons before arriving at Deepdale.

He made six League One appearances for Bradford in the second half of last season.

Our View

Not one to set the pulses racing for the Super White Army, Woods has a poor injury record, making only seventy-three league outings in the last five seasons.

Nonetheless, he may add some cover to Micky Mellon’s buoyant squad not to mention some valuable League One experience.

He was a good servant at Preston, and if he stays fit, he could be a useful addition.
