Tranmere Rovers have made their first summer signing with the arrival of central defender George Ray from Crewe Alexandra.
The former Crewe skipper rejected a deal to stay at Gresty Road and signed a two-year contract with Rovers.
The twenty-five-year-old has made over one hundred and fifty appearances for the Railwaymen since making his breakthrough in 2013, including seventy outings in League One.
The former Wales Under-21 international came through the Crewe academy system to become the first player to make his professional debut in a Wembley cup final when he came on as a substitute during Crewe’s victory over Southend United in the 2013 EFL Trophy.
Ray soon took to social media to do the obligatory ‘can’t wait to get started’ tweet and received a very warm welcome from the Super White Army.
Ray is an excellent signing for Rovers, and these delighted Tranmere fans soon took to Twitter to make the composed and assured defender feel welcome on Birkenhead.
Here is a selection of their responses to Ray’s ‘over the moon’ post.
