Plymouth Argyle interested in experienced former Bristol City goalkeeper

Former Bristol City goalkeeper Frank Fielding is interesting Plymouth Argyle as reported by the Daily Mail.

The Robins recently released the thirty-one-year-old after six years at Ashton Gate. He is a former England Under-21 international having played in the same 2011 European Championship team as Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker, under manager Stuart Pearce.

According to the report, new Pilgrims’ boss Ryan Lowe is looking for an experienced goalkeeper as he looks to build a squad capable of mounting a challenge for an immediate return to League One.

Fielding came through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers and enjoyed loan spells at Wycombe, Northampton, Rochdale, Leeds and Derby before making the switch to Pride Park permanent in 2011.

After two years and sixty-four outings for the Rams, he signed for the Robins in 2013 and went on to make one hundred and eighty-one appearances the majority of which have been in the Championship since he helped City to the League One title and EFL Trophy double 2014/15.

Our View

Fielding would be an excellent signing for Plymouth, but he may still feel he has something to offer a club higher up the EFL.

For example, Blackburn Rovers were linked with a return for the ‘keeper as recently as last summer.

A very popular figure at Ashton Gate, if Lowe gets this one over the line, he will be bringing a tremendous addition to his dressing room.

Fielding is a model professional and will bring fantastic experience and know how to Home Park.
