Hibernian set to sign Doidge from Forest Green Rovers

Hibernian are set too complete the signing of Forest Green striker Christian Doidge in the next twenty-four hours as reported by Sky Sports.

The report claims Sky understands Paul Heckingbottom’s side are also expected to pay between £250,000 and £300,000 for the twenty-six-year-old striker.

Doidge returned to Forest Green in January after a permanent move to Bolton Wanderers fell through. He initially joined Bolton on loan last summer intending to make the deal permanent in January, but the move to the financially stricken Lancashire club controversially collapsed, and Rovers recalled the striker.

The prolific forward soon regained his scoring touch at the New Lawn, finding the target ten times in twenty-two appearances in the second half of the season to help the club reach the League Two play-off semi-finals in only their second season in the EFL.

The Welshman is about to enter the final year of his contract at Rovers and is currently on an impressive goal to games ratio of sixty-six in one-hundred and twenty-one appearances across all competition since signing from Dagenham and Redbridge in 2016.

Our View

Doidge is an excellent player who never found his feet in the Championship, but there were mitigating circumstances, and we fully expect him to thrive in Scotland.

FGR supporters will be disappointed but know they have the financial backing to find a suitable replacement.

It is surprising no big hitters in League One have been linked with the striker, but this will be Hibs gain as we fully expect him to score loads of goals in the SPFL
