Carlisle set to announce fifth summer signing but unlikely to be Jerry Yates

Carlisle are set to announce their fifth summer signing, but it is unlikely to be Jerry Yates with the club admitting defeat in its pursuit of the striker as reported by the Carlisle News and Star.

According to the report the Cumbrians have conceded the Rotherham striker is set to sign elsewhere despite a summer-long chase by the Blues for his signature. Yates was thought to be a top summer target for Carlisle after impressing during a loan spell at Brunton Park last season, scoring six League Two goals in twenty-three appearances.

Speaking to the News & Star, United’s director of football David Holdsworth said: ‘We’ve made three bids for him, but it looks like he’ll go elsewhere.’

Swindon Town have also been linked heavily with the twenty-two-year-old who the Millers recently confirmed will go out on loan again before the start of the 2019/20 season.

Nonetheless, the report does suggest better news is around the corner for Carlisle fans with the club set to announce today the capture of an attacking midfielder. The local paper claims the club has agreed on a  deal with an unnamed player who will be unveiled later today. (20/6/19).

Our View

It appears Carlisle have pulled out all the stops to land Yates, but fans are becoming concerned at the clubs inability to sign or keep hold of quality proven League Two players and their rumoured policy of offering only one-year-deals.

They will be keeping a close eye on their news feeds today to see who is incoming but if the signing is a potential replacement for departing Jamie Devitt fans the club will need to make sure it is a name to excite their increasingly critical fan base.
