Middlesborough set to sign 20-year-old National League promotion winning forward

Middlesborough are closing in on making Leyton Orient forward Josh Koroma their first summer signing.

The twenty-year-old Brisbane Road Academy product has already made ninety-seven senior appearances for the O’s scoring on twenty occasions and is rated very highly by the East London club.

The youngster signed an improved two-year contract in the summer of 2018 and played an influential role in the clubs recent National League title success scoring eleven goals in thirty-nine outings.

A host of clubs have been linked with the exciting prospect including Huddersfield, Sunderland and Reading but Courtney Friday a local journalist from the Reading Chronicle has tweeted that Middlesborough have won the race for Koroma’s sought after signature and he appears set to arrive at the Riverside.

If Courtney Friday is accurate, Koroma will become new Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate’s first summer signing as he looks to add firepower to his side which was fifth lowest scoring outfit in the Championship last season.

Our View

Two days ago it seemed the youngster was set for Huddersfield and before that Sunderland appeared to be in the driving seat.

Nothing seems clear on this one, but it does seem very likely Koroma will be leaving Orient and Middlesbrough need creativity and goals in their squad.

He is a very good player and we expect that wherever he goes he will quickly be pushing for first-team football.

Orient fans will rightly be disappointed to lose such an influential player.

However, with reported fee said to be around £500,000 they will have money to build a squad capable of mounting a challenge in League Two especially when you add in the cash just received from Charlton for their other promotion winning striker Macauley Bonne.
