Fleetwood on the verge of signing 27-year-old winger

Fleetwood Town are set to sign winger Josh Morris on a free transfer as reported by HITC Sport.

The report claims their sources close to the club have revealed Morris, who is a free agent after turning down a new deal at Scunthorpe, is due to undergo a medical at Fleetwood after agreeing on a move to the North West.

The twenty-seven-year-old was one of Scunthorpe’s better performers in a disappointing season which resulted in relegation. He managed just nineteen League One outings in an injury-affected campaign but still scored five goals and contributed six assists in his limited game time.

The former Blackburn Rovers youngster is no stranger to the Cod Army, having enjoyed two previous loan spells at Highbury, helping the club win promotion to League One in the 2013/14 season before returning on loan again for the 2014/15 season.

During his three seasons at Glanford Park, Morris has made one hundred and twenty-five appearances, scoring thirty-seven goals, but his Iron career ended in controversy when he scored a highly contentious goal in the last day potential relegation decider away at Plymouth.

According to HITC Sport, Morris is now set to undergo a medical after agreeing to join manager Joey Barton’s squad.

Morris is potentially Barton’s second summer signing after full-back Danny Andrew recently rejoined the club on a three-year deal.

Our View

Fleetwood fans should be excited by this potential signing, Morris is an outstanding League One player, and it will be something of a coup if he lands at Highbury.

He offers excellent set-piece delivery and a goal threat from midfield and will be a great addition to Joey Barton’s squad.

He will be looking to put last seasons final day controversy and injury issues behind him and kick on at Fleetwood, which is a mouth-watering prospect for the Cod Army.
