James Norwood joined Ipswich Town yesterday, fresh from helping fire Tranmere Rovers to a second promotion in a row.
The striker bagged 32 goals for Mickey Mellon’s side, but has opted to join fellow League One side Ipswich following their relegation from the Championship.
Norwood is a late bloomer, having spent much of his career outside the Football League with Rovers and Forest Green. He’s always been on the cusp of prolific but has only just been adequately tested in the Football League.
It’s a big move for him, but he’s the second striker in as many seasons to help fire Mellon’s side to promotion and then leave. Andy Cook did the same last year, but he saw Walsall swap places with Tranmere this season and now contemplates life in League Two.
That is one ‘concern’ a Tranmere fan responding to the move has for Norwood. They’re suggesting he could well experience the same with Ipswich, although the Tractor Boys are not likely to be as bad as Walsall, nor as terrible as they were last season in the Championship.
Still, it’s a move that’s left some Tranmere fans upset this morning whereas others will just remember the good times.
All I'm going to say is that Cook left us last season to play at the highest level possible and his team got relegated… Good luck! 👍
