Crewe Alexandra confirmed the signing of former Swindon Town defender Olly Lancashire on a two-year deal yesterday.
Lancashire was one of a handful of players released by Richie Wellens, but he’s quickly found another club and the security of a longer deal at Gresty Road.
The 30-year-old began his career with Southampton, struggling to make an impact at St Mary’s. He went on loan to Grimsby Town on three occasions, appearing as they were relegated from the Football League for the first time in their history.
Since then he’s been with Walsall, Aldershot, Rochdale, Shrewsbury and latterly Swindon Town before his recent release, racking up 302 senior appearances.
Whilst he would seem to be a good signing, both experienced at the level and having come from a decent background, he’s not popular with his former clubs. As Crewe announced the arrival of the Basingstoke-born defender, plenty of opposition fans were on his back in the comments.
A few Crewe fans welcomed him to Gresty Road, but just as many Swindon supporters were ready to have their say too, as you’ll see below.
