‘Prove them wrong,’ ‘Big prospect’ – Aston Villa and Cambridge fans react to 20-year-old’s switch

Cambridge United’s relationship with Aston Villa goes from strength to strength as they’ve acquired the services of released striker Harvey Knibbs, as reported by the BBC.

Knibbs left Villa Park at the end of the season but followed Rushian Hepburn-Murphy to the Abbey Stadium. Hepburn-Murphy spent time on loan under Colin Calderwood last season, but couldn’t prevent his side finishing in the bottom four.

The new management team, who took over from Joe Dunne during the season, are looking to get the university city up the League Two table and are calling their mission ‘the next chapter’.

Calderwood was delighted to have secured the youngster’s service,s saying; “I’m quietly hoping he becomes something that no-one expects him to be. I think he’s going to get stronger and stronger and I like the fact that he really wanted to get himself sorted fairly quickly, and didn’t hang about thinking there might be something higher up the pyramid.”

The 20-year-old bagged three Premier League Two goals in 16 fixtures last season, but will make his first entry into senior football with last season’s strugglers.

Knibbs tweeted his delighted, saying; “Delighted to finally announce I have signed for @CambridgeUtdFC , due to my familiarity with the manager and positive discussions with former players it became an easy decision for me, I can’t wait to get started & see what the future holds.”

Calderwood had been assistant at Villa before joining Cambridge, which has assisted in him capturing their young talent.

Fans were quick to welcome him to the club, with a couple of Villa fans promising that they’ve acquired a ‘big talent’ too.
