‘Made me proud,’ ‘See you in the Championship’ – These Charlton fans respond to 28-year-old’s joyous social media post

Charlton defender Chris Solly has been praising the club’s achievements on Twitter, much to the delight of their supporters.

The Addicks secured promotion back to the Championship with an unlikely surge up the table in the final weeks. They were the in form side, winning seven of their eight matches prior to a thrilling second-leg penalties win against Doncaster Rovers.

Despite going behind to a bizarre own goal at Wembley, Exeter-born Ben Purrington and German Patrick Bauer gave them two goals to lift them up a division. It also gave their long-suffering supporters a huge boost, allowing them to briefly forget about the poisonous reign of chairman Roland Duchatelet.

To finish our Charlton coverage, seeing as they’re no longer in what we term the ‘Real EFL’, we’ve collected the responses to Solly’s post as a tribute to their wonderful achievements.

The 28-year-old tweeted; “Words can’t describe the season that we as players, staff and fans have accomplished. It’s a year to remember in so many ways and to complete the mission at Wembley was a dream come true for us all.”

What a perfect way to sum up the remarkable season enjoyed by Lee Bowyer’s side and of course, the fans who packed into the Valley every week. Here’s what a handful of them had to say as we bid them farewell.
